SOMERDALE SET TO EXPORT MORE CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY BRITISH DAIRY PRODUCTS TO CHINA
FHC 2018 - HALL N3 - STAND 3B-B01A
Food and Hotel China 2018 will see the debut of Rodda’s Classic Cornish Clotted Cream in China and the launch of our own innovative ‘Gourmet Cheese Pizza Topping’ range.
Rodda’s, the oldest and largest clotted cream company in the world, has teamed up us to export Classic Cornish Clotted Cream to China. The quintessential ingredient of the traditional English cream tea will be a major focus of our presence at the Food and Hotel China (FHC) exhibition being held in Shanghai from 13th – 15th November 2018.
In addition to Cornish Clotted Cream, we will be showcasing our extensive range of high quality British cheeses at FHC as part of the UK dairy stand (being co-ordinated by AHDB Dairy) and we believe that the exhibition will provide a strong platform from which to build further sales and relationships in China.
While many of Somerdale’s cheeses are traditional, we are proud of our ability to create innovative, new cheese products and packaging formats. A good example of this being the launch at FHC of a new range of ‘Gourmet Cheese Pizza Topping’ cheese especially created to meet the growing demand from foodservice customers in China for convenient, added-value cheese pizza toppings. The range features British Cheddar with Cracked Black Pepper, British Cheddar with Chilli and Lime, and Monterey Jack and Truffle.
Somerdale already has an established presence in China with a network of regional distributors covering the main Chinese cities and has instigated regular sea and air shipments to Shanghai. We supply cheese in a range of retail packs as well as foodservice specific products to restaurants, hotels and food manufacturers. Meanwhile, we have also developed a position in the growing retail and B2B e-commerce sectors.
There is an increasing demand for high quality British food in China and we are witnessing increasing interest in British cheese and dairy products. We have a great story to tell in relation to product quality, environmental standards & provenance and FHC will we believe help us communicate this to the Chinese market.
New for FHC 2018 is our partnership with Rodda’s, the world’s oldest and largest producer of clotted cream, to bring the authentic taste of Cornish Clotted Cream to China. The first deliveries will arrive in Shanghai in the coming months and we are already receiving strong levels of interest from leading premium hotels and restaurants.

Rodda's Cornish Clotted Cream
The Rodda family have been making Cornish clotted cream on the same site for five generations using the same passion, expertise and traditional cooking methods for over 128 years. Made solely from rich, local Cornish milk, the cream is gently baked until it’s thick & silky and a delicate golden crust starts to appear as the tastiest and richest bits rise to the top in the cooking process. Nothing beats breaking through the seal with a spoon to experience the smoothness of the cream below.
The quality and authenticity of the Rodda’s Cornish Clotted Cream is recognised by its holding of a Protected Designation of Origin status – a European Union award designed to protect traditional, regional foods against imitation. Cornish clotted cream has to be made in Cornwall, with Cornish milk and in the traditional way.
Cornish Clotted Cream is the quintessential ingredient of the traditional English cream tea. Although still the perfect partner for a scone and jam, today clotted cream often accompanies a range of puddings and is also now frequently being used by chefs and lovers of fine foods as an ingredient to add a touch of luxury to sweet and savoury dishes.
When my great-great-grandmother Eliza Jane Rodda started making Cornish clotted cream in her farmhouse kitchen over 128 years ago the idea of sending our Cornish delicacy to China would be something she would never have dreamed of. As a family business, we are delighted that our Cornish clotted cream will help to bring a taste of Cornwall to China.
