Crafted in Somerset since 1833
Barber’s Farmhouse Cheesmakers
The Barber family have been making cheddar since 1833, making them the oldest surviving cheddar makers in the world.
Produced at Maryland Farm in Ditcheat, Somerset – just 15 miles from the village of Cheddar itself – Barber’s cheese is protected under PDO certification and crafted using the last traditional pint starter culture native to the South West of England.
Combined with generations of expertise and milk from the family’s own herd of over 3,000 cows, it all comes together to create cheddar with exceptional depth of flavour and character.

Barber’s 1833 Vintage Reserve Cheddar
Barber’s 1833 is made using traditional starter cultures and the finest West Country milk.
Aged for at least 20 months, only when one of the Barber family judges it to be outstanding does it leave the farm as 1833.
This is a cheese with unrivalled complexity and depth.
Savour it as part of a cheeseboard with apples, pickled walnuts and a tankard of Somerset cider.
With a creamy texture and smooth finish, 1833 contains naturally- occurring crystals that give it a distinctive crunch.
Refined sweet notes balance out its tangy sharpness.
