One of the largest global food shows provides the opportunity to showcase British dairy to the world.

Somerdale International, the leading exporter of great-tasting British cheese and dairy products will be championing a comprehensive range of great-tasting, premium British cheese at Anuga in Cologne, Germany from 7th – 11th October. Anuga is the world’s largest and most important trade fair for food and beverages. Over five days it expects to attract in excess of 150,000 visitors who will be able to see the world’s largest range of products being promoted by over 7,800 exhibitors from 118 countries.

At Anuga, Somerdale will showcase a comprehensive range of over 30 premium British cheeses made by some of the country’s leading cheesemakers including Barbers (the oldest surviving cheddar-makers in the World!), Joseph Heler, Quickes, Cropwell Bishop, Croome Cuisine and Ford Farm to name but a few. Somerdale will also be exhibiting its own range of branded cheddars and innovative blended cheeses targeted at the growing demand in export markets for both demonstrable provenance and distinctively flavoured & textured cheese. The latter will include:

  • Westminster Cheddar – Somerdale’s best-selling branded range of great tasting quintessentially British Cheddars including Westminster Rustic Red, a traditional cheddar with the addition of Anatto and helveticus cultures to impart wonderful sweet, nutty tones and a distinctive deep orange hue.
  • A range of Somerdale English Territorial Cheeses including authentic Double Gloucester, Red Leicester and Cheshire cheeses.
  • Somerdale’s range of Wensleydale cheese blended with fruit including the classic pairing of Wensleydale & Cranberries. Creamy Wensleydale is one of England’s oldest cheeses and was first made by monks in the north of England around the 11th century. This unrinded white cheese has a natural acidity that pairs wonderfully with fruit, creating the perfect dessert cheese.

Among the pre-pack cheeses that Somerdale will showcase at Summer Fancy Food will be:

  • The iconic Westminster branded cheddar range is lovingly made by some of the most respected British cheese-making families. The pre-packed Westminster range includes a classic Sharp Cheddar and delicious Smoked Cheddar available in cases of 12 x 5.3oz packs; while available in cases of 10 x 5.3oz packs are an aged super powerful Vintage Cheddar;  a Rustic Red with sweet, nutty caramelised notes; a stunning Reserve Cheddar aged for over two years to ensure the ultimate tastebud sensation; and Gold Hill an award-winning sweet mature cheddar, carefully aged for over 12 months until it reaches perfection.
  • Barber’s 1833 Vintage Reserve Cheddar – the classic British Cheddar made to a closely guarded recipe by the Barber family the oldest cheddar makers in the world who are located just 15 miles away from the village of Cheddar in the heart of the Somerset countryside!  Aged for two years, the 1833 Vintage Reserve has a wonderfully complex taste including subtle notes of gooseberry and is available in cases of 12 x 6.7oz packs.
  • Wensleydale & Cranberries – Creamy Wensleydale is one of England’s oldest cheeses and was first made by monks in the North of England around the 11th Century.  An unrinded, white cheese which has a natural acidity that pairs wonderfully with fruit such as deliciously juicy cranberries. Available in cases of 12 x 5.3oz packs.
  • Wensleydale with Lemon & Honey – this divine and delicious combination is a classic dessert cheese.  Pairing the slightly acidic Wensleydale with refreshing lemon curd and soothing honey creates a superb almost cheesecake flavour that gives a real contrast to often heavier, savoury cheeses. Available in cases of 12 x 5.3oz packs.
  • Wensleydale with Blueberries – a perfect partnership of creamy, slightly acidic cheese with the sweetness of delicious blueberries. Available in cases of 12 x 5.3oz packs.
